Shards, ATM Cave, Belize
Over 1400 artifacts dating from 1 A.D. to 1000 A.D. were excavated in Actun Tunichil Muknal Cave in 1989. To get here with a guide, we hiked two miles, swam into the cave, climbed, scrambled, waded and climbed some more. There are no ropes, no guardrails, and apparently no money to protect it further. This vessel was used to hold water, probably in rituals to the rain god, Chac.
